| As a critically-acclaimed actress, daring producer, and co-founder of the nonprofit organization Voto Latino, Rosario Dawson is making both meaningful art and a lasting difference. Discovered as a teenager and cast in the controversial hit Kids, Ms. Dawson has emerged as one of Hollywood’s most sought after leading ladies, yet remains a dedicated advocate for young people. With a rich heritage that includes Puerto Rican, Afro-Cuban, Native American, and Irish ancestry, Ms. Dawson credits her diverse background with providing her a unique perspective and broad view of the world. Since her childhood, Ms. Dawson has embraced the value of justice as well as the notion that when one person makes enough noise, she can make an impact. This belief led her to start Voto Latino and put her star power to work as a force for community empowerment and improvement. As a nationwide, non-partisan vehicle for change, Voto Latino galvanizes and unifies the voices of Hispanic youth and young adults, and highlights opportunities to take action on issues that affect their lives on daily basis. In addition to Voto Latino, Ms. Dawson lends her time and talent to organizations including Global Cool, Oxfam, Amnesty International, and the Lower East Side Girls Club. She has given life to such memorable characters as ‘Mimi’ in the film adaptation of the famed Broadway musical Rent, and recently produced and starred in the striking psychological thriller Descent. Ms. Dawson will appear next in Killshot, directed by the Academy Award-nominated John Madden. |
