Selection Process

2007 Nominations

The national partner organizations and the Board of Directors of the Hispanic Heritage Foundation serve as the Nominating Selection Committee. Each organization has the opportunity to identify and nominate Hispanic achievers who have demonstrated excellence, made an impact in their field, helped improve the Hispanic condition in the United States and are role models through their career accomplishments and community contributions. Nomination packets were received in March in the following areas: Leadership, Sports, Literature, Education and the Arts. Individuals can be nominated in more than one discipline and by more than one organization. The HHA coordinator forwards the submitted packets to the National Selection Committee.

2007 Selection Committee

The Selection Committee is comprised of eight members. They are experts in various disciplines and geographically represent America. These members are as follows: members of the Board of Directors, Past Honorees and a National Youth Award recipient. The National Selection Committee members' names are strictly confidential until the Honorees have been announced.

2007 Voting Process

Nomination packets are mailed to each member of the National Selection Committee. Each member votes independently on a ballot form by rating the nominee from the scale of 1 to 10. The ballots are returned to the HHA coordinator whereby the votes are tabulated. The nominees with the highest total scores are the Honorees for that year. If, however, one of the nominees cannot accept the honor, the next highest scored nominee will be notified as the Honoree.
