Adolfo and Magdalena Lara
Sports
Magdalena Lara and Adolfo Lara are an exceptional sister and brother.  In most families, one typically finds the ?smart? child, the ?athletic? child and the ?artistic? child?everyone usually has their role.  But this brother and sister team is academically and athletically outstanding!  Magdalena has been on the Varsity Basketball team since her freshman year of high school.  She has also competed at the varsity level in Track, Volleyball and Cross-Country Running.  Her teachers and coaches state that they have rarely seen such a combination of maturity, leadership and drive in someone so young.  She is a leader both on and off the courts, the field, or the track.  She has volunteered with the Ambulatory Surgical Unit at Thomason General Hospital, and she is actively involved in National Honor Society and Student Council.  Despite all her extracurricular activities, Magdalena has managed to maintain a 3.7 grade point average and fulfilled her academic requirements early enough to have graduated this past January. And then there?s Adolfo, Magdalena?s younger brother.  Like his sister, he too has maintained a busy academic schedule and will also be an early graduate.  In fact, at 15, he will be the youngest member of his graduating class.  But Adolfo?s impressive accomplishments do not stop here.  His athletic specialty is baseball and when the Lara family lived in El Paso, Texas, Adolfo was the youngest member of the varsity baseball team, at only 13 years of age.  Impressive as all of that is, there is still more to this outstanding young pitcher.  He is ambidextrous and capable of pitching at 78 mph with either arm and currently can pitch at 85 mph with both arms!  He is very involved in his church youth group an experience he believes has taught him to work well with others, to accept others as they are, and to respect individual beliefs.  Adolfo Lara Adolfo completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Arizona in two years and then enrolled at the University?s law school, wishing to receive his law degree at age 21 by December 2004.   JOBS(S) SINCE RECEIVING HHA AWARD: Servicios de la Raza Census 2000Portales Municipal Schools HONORS SINCE RECEIVING HHA AWARD: Arizona State University high GPA Award, 1999State Press Interview for Sports, 1999Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society, 1999Latin American Educational Foundation Scholarship, 1999 & 2000Faywood Ward Scholarship, 2000 Charles A.
