| A senior at Brazoswood High School, Vanessa Trevino will graduate with a perfect 4.0 GPA. Ranked 8 out of a class of 568 students, she has taken numerous AP and Honors courses, including AP Calculus BC and AP Statistics, and attributes her successes to her belief that determination is power. Of Mexican descent, Vanessa is the senior class co-president, is an officer of her school’s Habitat for Humanity Chapter, and is involved with the National Hispanic Institute, where she helps freshman develop leadership skills. Vanessa has also created her own initiative project where she works with current 8th grade students from two junior highs and encourages them to take advanced classes when they attend high school. She has participated in summer science programs at MIT, Cornell and the University of Texas. First in her family to go to college, Vanessa will continue her studies at MIT with a major in Biological Engineering and minor in Business Management.
