| Rachel Mendivil, a senior in the Practical Nursing Program at Metro Tech High School, is the Gold Medallion 2004 Hispanic Heritage Youth Awards Phoenix Regional Winner for Healthcare sponsored by GlaxoSmithKline. A first generation Mexican-American, Rachel will be the first in her family to attend college. Her goal is to attend the University of Arizona with a Nursing major. When Rachel volunteers at the Phoenix Children?s Hospital, she plays games with the children and seeks to put a smile on their faces. The death of her aunt helped Rachel realize how important life really is. Rachel?s best friend who had a horrible childhood serves as a role model because she uses the difficulties of her past to help her become a better person. |
