| Catherine Elizabeth Martinez of Skyline High School is the Silver Medallion Los Angeles Region Youth Award recipient for Journalism. As the first high school sophomore in the last 40 years to be the editor in chief of the Skyline High School newspaper, Catherine is determined to have a career in writing. In addition to her aptitude with words, she is also community oriented. Catherine has been a Girl Scout for 12 years, and does extensive work with Operation Smile, an organization that helps fund surgeries for people in developing countries. With a mother from Mexico, and a father of Spanish decent, Catherine says her Hispanic heritage has taught her to always give back to her community. She has been accepted to Pepperdine and USC, but will attend Linfield College in the fall. |
