LOFT STEM Symposium at Miami Dade College!

Hispanic Heritage Foundation

The Hispanic Heritage Foundation (HHF) hosted the LOFT STEM Symposium at Miami Dade College this week!

The LOFT STEM Leadership Symposium is a free leadership and workforce development program sponsored by the Army that provides career-path guidance, educational opportunities, and connectivity for students and young professionals in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Technology (STEM) fields.

Our friends at the U.S. Army and other panelists provided their personal success stories, words of advice, and answered other questions about their respective professions.

I am the Marketing and PR Coordinator at HHF, and I had the opportunity to MC this event in Miami. Hearing the students engage in interactive conversations with the panelists, ask questions, and talk about their futures was a great thing to witness.

Students want to learn more, volunteer in their communities, prepare for the future and for those who have graduated college understand that starting the college process can be the hardest part. Allowing others to help you is important, and taking initiative once the guidance is there comes shortly after.

I think it’s so important to take part in as many networking events as possible, even as a high school student. The earlier you can build your network and learn more about your career, the easier it will make your journey in college.

For those of you who are still in high school, take advantage of all the resources there are online, including scholarships and grants. There are so many ways you can receive financial aid, and mentorship guidance.

Lieutenant Vanessa Narciso from the U.S. Army led the leadership training, followed by a workshop where students provided their feedback on how they believe leadership applies in their everyday lives.

At this LOFT STEM Symposium, the panelists talked about their college experiences, overcoming obstacles in their careers, and the importance of pursing a Master’s Degree after completing Undergraduate education.

Panelist Diana Marquez said, “Being a panelist at the LOFT STEM Symposium in Miami was amazing, it’s great to see the excitement of the future generation in STEM.”

Graduating high school and preparing for college are important, and our LOFT STEM Symposia allow youth and other professionals to connect and have meaningful conversations in becoming future Latino leaders!

Students connected to our LOFT program are then given access to year-long LOFT Innovation Workforce Development programs including Innovation Fellowships, Youth Awards, and other work-based learning opportunities.
