2016 Coors Light Líder of the Year, Alberto Avalos!

Coors Light and the Hispanic Heritage Foundation (HHF) honored Alberto Avalos, HHF’s Innovation and Technology Manager, as the 2016 Coors Light Líder of the Year!

Leaders, supporters, and friends and family gathered in the ballroom of the Los Angeles Athletic Club (LAAC) to honor Avalos with a $25,000 grant for his accomplishment in serving his community, and providing Latinos with more opportunities in technology!

Coors Light representatives were there to present a certificate of recognition signed by Mayor of Los Angeles, Eric Garcetti. HHF Chair, Emanuel Pleitez was also in attendance to honor Avalos. Pleitez has served as a mentor to Avalos early on in his career, and gave his touching remarks and highlighted Avalos success at HHF.

Avalos expressed the importance of leadership, and really spoke to his personal dedication to Code as a Second Language (CSL), an innovative program that he oversees at HHF. Avalos works day in and day out to provide the community with opportunities that many only dream of, and this program is available in different cities across the country!

President and CEO, Antonio Tijerino said, “I hope everyone has the privilege to work alongside or even know such an exemplary young man. He is exactly what we’re trying to develop in our mission, and to have someone leading our young team by example is a tremendous asset.”

Avalos also celebrated this special day by doing over 20 radio interviews from the early hours in the day until he received his award. In these interviews, he spoke about his educational experience and early professional work, where he learned that the opportunity gap in technology for Latinos was largely due to the lack of access to meaningful computer science education.
