With the 30th Anniversary of the Hispanic Heritage Awards around the corner, we’d like to share with you some of the past honorees and their many accomplishments. HHF honored Maná in 2009 with the Hispanic Heritage Green Award.

Maná adopted the name that would give them global recogition, “Maná,”chosen because of the meaning of the Polynesian word, “positive energy.” Those members in the band included Fher Olvera vocalist, the brothers Juan and Ulises Calleros, on guitar and bass, and Alex Gonzalez on drums! In 1987, Maná was signed to Polygram Records and they released Maná, a record that anchored their movement “Rock en tu idioma,” (Rock Your Lanaguage).

Last year, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce honored Maná with the 2,573rd star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame! They received the star in the category of Recording, dedicated on Hollywood Boulevard. Ana Martinez, Producer of the Hollywood Walk of Fame cermeonies said, “As one of Latin America’s most popular Rock bands, Maná brought many fans to Hollywood for the dedication ceremony. They are not only well known throughout Latin America here in the United States and across the world as well.”

Just to name a few, Maná has been awarded “2009: Latin Pop Album of the Year, Duo or Group: “Si No Te Hubieras Ido,” 2012 Latin Duet or Group, Songs & Album of the Year at the Billboard Latin Music Awards. In 2011, Maná received Best Rock Album for “Drama y Luz,” and in 2015 Best Rock/Pop Album for “Cama Incendiada,” at the Latin Grammy Awards.  Maná is also well known for their continuous work for the Selva Negra Foundation (Fundacion Ecologica Selva Negra), one of Latin America’s leading voices for envirnemntal protection.

HHF was honored to present Maná with the HHA Green Award in 2009, reinging among the other presitigious honorees that have been honored the past 30 years. The Hispanic Heritage Awards are unique in that celebrities take the stage along with educators, innovators, community and business leaders, elected officials and others. Past honorees include: Ricky Martin, Gloria and Emilio Estefan, Isabel Allende, Zoe Saldana, Oscar de la Hoya, Rosario Dawson, Los Tigres Del Norte, America Ferrera, Eva Longoria, Antonio Banderas, Carlos Vives, to name a few.

At the HHA’s, celebriites are honored alongside physicians, scientists, educators, innovators, public officials and even young leaders. Stay tuned as we announce Hispanic Heritage Award honorees and presenters in the weeks to come!
