COORS LIGHT CELEBRATES LÍDER OF THE YEAR

LA Community Leader Alberto Ávalos to Receive $25,000 Grant

LOS ANGELES (March 9, 2017) – Coors Light Líder of the Year Alberto Ávalos will be recognized at a special reception with family, friends and distinguished community leaders at the Los Angeles Athletic Club (LAAC). Coors Light Líderes granted a $25,000 award to Ávalos nominating nonprofit, Hispanic Heritage Foundation, an organization that identifies, inspires, prepares and connects Latino leaders in the community. With the grant, Ávalos will continue to help his Los Angeles community climb on and reach their personal best. Today, Coors Light is also announcing the public call for nominations for the 2017 Coors Light Líder of the Year.

“It is an honor to be chosen as the 2016 Coors Light Líder and represent the Hispanic Heritage Foundation,” said Ávalos. “Coors Light is committed to investing in the professional development of emerging Latino leaders. I am excited to use the $25,000 grant to expand the efforts I’ve already started with the Hispanic Heritage Foundation and want to continue to offer our community the tools they need to succeed in the field of technology.”

Through his educational experience and early professional work, Ávalos learned that the opportunity gap in technology for Latinos was largely due to the lack of access to meaningful computer science education. This led him to launch an interactive introduction to computer science program, called Coding Jam, in his predominately Latino hometown of Boyle Heights in East Los Angeles. In his podcast, Ávalos explains the importance of forging connections through volunteerism to become a successful leader.

Coors Light Líderes is a signature MillerCoors program that embraces the values that encourage people to take on challenges and explore new opportunities. The more than 150 Latino leaders who have participated in the program continue to achieve success and make a difference to empower their communities.

“I am pleased to congratulate the 2016 Coors Light Líder of the Year, Alberto Ávalos,” said Alberto Senior, who leads MillerCoors’ national Latino community efforts. “Alberto has the qualities of a great leader, and I am confident that his efforts towards the advancement of diversity in the tech industry will encourage future generations to climb their personal mountains and achieve unprecedented success. I am thrilled to start this journey with Alberto, one which will ultimately benefit the Latino community in Los Angeles.”

For more than 10 years, the Coors Light Líderes program has recognized and highlighted the achievements of emerging Latino leaders through an online public voting competition, a national and local advertising campaign and robust community outreach. Ávalos was among 12 Latino leaders nominated by local and national nonprofit organizations for their leadership and contributions to their communities. He was named Coors Light Líder of the Year in November 2016.

Coors Light Líderes aspires to reach new and unique heights. The projects developed by the Coors Light Líderes grants have promoted leadership, education, environment responsibility, and business while providing aspiring leaders a broad range of networking and professional growth tools, empowering them to go further. The 2017 public call for nominations begins today, March 9, 2017.

About Coors Brewing Company

Coors Brewing Company was founded in 1873 by Adolph Coors, who chose the Clear Creek Valley in Golden, Colo., for his new brewery because of the pure water in the nearby Rocky Mountain springs. The brewery’s original and most enduring beer is Coors Banquet (Coors.com, Facebook.com/CoorsBanquet, YouTube.com/OfficialCoorsBanquet), still brewed exclusively in Golden using only Rocky Mountain water and high-country barley. Coors Light (CoorsLight.com, Facebook.com/CoorsLight, @CoorsLight on Twitter, YouTube.com/CoorsLight) was introduced in 1978 and now is the second-best-selling beer in the United States. Triple-filtered smooth Keystone Light (KeystoneLight.com, Facebook.com/KeystoneLight) is one the country’s most popular economy beers. Coors Brewing Company is part of MillerCoors, the U.S. business unit of the Molson Coors Brewing Company.
