The 18th Annual National Youth Awards are tomorrow, Jan 26 in Miami! The National Youth Awards honors 8 top Latino students who have excelled both in the classroom, and in their community. HHF is honored to have Grammy and Latin Grammy – nominated band, Locos Por Juana perform at the award show.

Band members include vocalist Itagui Correa, guitarist Mark Kondrat, and drummer Javier Delgado, joined by trombonist Lasim Richards, and percussionist Carlos Palmet.

Locos por Juana is recognized for their energetic live performances and unique fusion of Latin, Caribbean, and American rhythms. All band members are from diverse backgrounds, and have incorporated sounds of their heritage and upbringing into rhythms like Cumbia, and Champeta.

Other musical influences are from Miami and the Caribbean Islands which include Reggae, Raggamuffin, and Dub from Jamaica, along with Hip-Hop, Rock, and Funk!

The L.A. Times has defined Locos Por Juana as “a funky, pan-Latin amalgam, pulling listeners into a reverse Gulf Stream churning through the Straits of Florida south to Jamaica, Venezuela, and over to Puerto Rico.”

Locos por Juana told The Miami New Times, “Locos por Juana could only have been born in Miami, because we’ve got a little bit of everything.

HHF is honored to have this band perform for a talented group of hardworking students who are well on their way to becoming Latino leaders!
