National Youth Awards Spotlight: Clarissa C.

Hispanic Heritage Foundation

The Hispanic Heritage Foundation (HHF) will host the 18th Annual National Youth Awards Ceremony tomorrow, January 26, 2017 in Miami, Florida!

HHF is honored to present the Accounting and Math recipient, Clarissa Castillo. Clarissa serves as a role models to others, and is a true example of hard work.

Clarissa credits her father’s habit of carrying a yellow notebook and recording his transactions for her interest in accounting. She hopes to use her skill and delight in mathematics and finance to help others manage their own financial situations. To prepare for a career in the field, she has enrolled in advanced mathematics courses, and joined academic clubs, such as the Math Club and UIL Math.

She is also a member of Business Professionals of America and was elected President of her high school’s chapter this year. She is a member of the National Honors Society and placed second in the State Qualified Business Professionals of America – Human Resource Management.

Clarissa has also served as a devoted Altar Server for about a decade at Our Lady of Good Counsel. This past summer, Clarissa had the opportunity to attend two programs, Subiendo and Discover Yourself in Accounting Majors and Careers (DYNAMC). Both programs were located at The University of Texas at Austin where she was taught important leadership skills, and given the opportunity to network with local businesses.

She is also a trainee at the Pharmacy Technician Program through her local school district, where she attends an externship at a local Walgreens that will prepare her to pass the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam. Clarissa maintains a cumulative 4.5 GPA and has applied to University of Texas at Austin, Texas A&M University and Swarthmore College.

Clarissa is well on her way to becoming a Latina leader, and a lifetime of future achievements!
