Partnership Includes Support of Hispanic Heritage Awards, Code as a Second Language, Charlas and Financial Education Campaign to HHF’s Network
WASHINGTON, DC – The Hispanic Heritage Foundation (HHF) announced today that Nationwide will be the Foundation’s Official Insurance and Financial Services Partner. As part of that partnership, Nationwide will serve as the Broadcast Sponsor of the 31st Annual Hispanic Heritage Awards; support the Code as a Second Language (CSL) program; host Charlas-focused on financial education; and execute a financial education campaign to HHF’s network.
“We are thrilled to welcome Nationwide as the Official Insurance and Financial Services Partner to the Hispanic Heritage Foundation,” said Antonio Tijerino, President and CEO of the HHF. “We look forward to sharing America’s Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration with a national television audience as we share our community’s accomplishments, cultural pride and great promise. In addition, through this exciting partnership, we will introduce Latino youth to coding through our CSL program, bring our community together for Charlas to discuss issues that affect us financially, as well as push out important financial education content to our network. The impact of this new alliance will be felt.”
“Nationwide is excited to expand our relationship with the Hispanic Heritage Foundation,” said Jennifer MacKenzie, senior vice-president of Marketing at Nationwide. “Our two organizations have worked well together in the past because we share values of improving the lives of others and giving back to the community. Nationwide looks forward to continuing that work with these new initiatives.”
The 31st Annual Hispanic Heritage Awards will take place on September 12th at the prestigious John F. Kennedy for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC, and air on PBS Stations nationally during Hispanic Heritage Month. The Awards were established by The White House in 1987 to commemorate creation of Hispanic Heritage Month in America. The Awards are among the highest honors by Latinos for Latinos and are supported by 40 national Hispanic-serving institutions. The 2018 Honorees will be announced over the coming months (visit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C92ZiK5MxAs for a video about the Awards).
Code as a Second Language (CSL) is a national initiative which introduces and teaches Latino and other underrepresented youth to computer programming in a larger effort to create pathways to tech jobs, foster innovative minds, and transform communities. CSL is now in more than 35 regions and includes Coding Jam Sessions, Coding Boot Camps, and Coding Academies. Volunteers, which include professionals and CS college students, provide mentoring and serve as role models for the youths.
HHF’s Charlas are local, organized, galvanizing platforms led by members of the community across the country who are presenting, discussing or sharing personal experiences, ideas, actions, projects, topics, etc., to each other in a safe, informal, social manner. Through a series of five-minute, back-to-back presentations with breaks to encourage dialogue, collaboration, and support, the participants leave with new perspectives, inspirations, and a stronger network. The theme of the Nationwide Charlas will be on financial issues that affect Latino families, communities and individuals.
Lastly, Nationwide will provide subject matter expertise on financial education to HHF’s network throughout the partnership through the website, webinars, social media, and targeted outreach.
