The Hispanic Heritage Foundation (HHF) launched a Code as a Second Language (CSL) Academy sponsored by the Adobe Foundation at Leadership Public School (LPS) in Oakland, California! The 8-session academy will take place over the duration of four weeks at LPS.

CSL is a national educational initiative introducing, teaching and connecting Latino youth to computer programming by leveraging young programmers in the HHF network to serve as CSL fellows. The model fosters a network of Latino software engineers and other Latino leaders in technology.

“Computer science can help youth build the skills necessary for success in school, workforce, and in life,” said Antonio Tijerino, President and CEO of HHF.

Within the CSL program there are CSL Academies, CSL Bootcamps and CSL Jams that all introduce students to coding. HHF is committed to providing students with resources to technology, and our vision is possible by allowing students to stay connected with year-round access to the Latinos on Fast Track (LOFT) Innovation leadership and workforce development programs including our Innovation Fellowships, Youth Awards, mentoring and other work-based learning opportunities. CSL not only helps students prepare for a career in tech, but CSL students are the first to know about local events and resources in the area.
