HHF’s President and CEO, Antonio Tijerino, was recognized as a leader in the community at D.C. United’s match vs. San Jose on Saturday, September 23 at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C. during halftime in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month!

“Thank you D.C. United and Victor Melara for your leadership in our community. It was a privilege being on the field and cheering as the United won,” said Antonio.

D.C. United, managed by Ben Olsen, is an American professional soccer club based in Washington, D.C., and competes as a member of the Eastern Conference in Major League Soccer, the top level of professional American soccer.

Hispanic Heritage Month, celebrated from September 15 to October 15, Americans celebrate the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. Thank you to the D.C. United team for recognizing Antonio and HHF’s leadership efforts in empowering our Latino youth across the country!

Continue to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with us by watching our 30th Anniversary Hispanic Heritage Awards on October 6, 2017 on PBS! This year’s Hispanic Heritage Awards included top Latino performers and personalities, including Gael Garcia Bernal, Latin music superstar Luis Fonsi, The Latin Recording Academy, Members of the Nation’s “DREAMER” Community, NASCAR’s Groundbreaking Alba Colon and Coca-Cola’s Rudy Beserra.

The Hispanic Heritage Awards (HHA’s) were established in 1987 by President Ronald Reagan to commemorate the creation of Hispanic Heritage Month in America. Since that time, our HHA’s are considered among the highest honors for Hispanics by Hispanics. The Awards recognize the contributions and accomplishments of leading Latino individuals and organizations in various fields while celebrating cultural pride and the great promise of America.
