The Hispanic Heritage Foundation (HHF) hosted its final Body, Mind & Spirit Seminar presented by the U.S. Marines this week in Detroit!

The Seminar in Detroit took place at Wayne State University! Local high schools attended the seminars to learn more about the importance of one’s well-being, and how achieving a balance of body, mind & spirit is key to current and future success.

Major Alfred Jimenez from the U.S. Marines gave the opening remarks, and Sergeant Major Moreno led the leadership workshop. Panelists that spoke included Major Jimenez from the U.S. Marines, Amanda Anderson, Wellness Coordinator at the South Oakland YMCA, Maria Teresa Funes, Director of Administration and Finances for Contextos, El Salvador, Jesse Cortez, Global Inclusion Effectiveness Lead at Hewlett Packard Enterprise, and Major Adan Moreno, current Recruiting Station Detroit Sergeant Major.

The students were inspired by the panelists and their personal stories, and were excited to hear how they became success stories. Topics that were discussed included leadership, how to overcome adversities, and health/life hacks that increase their happiness, productivity and general well-being!

Students, panelists, administrators and other professionals were all moved with the conversations and connections that were made at these Seminars. As high school students are graduating high school and preparing for college and their future careers, these Seminars serve as the perfect space to ask questions and network with working professionals.

More than 300 high school students learned about leadership values and the importance of balance during this half-day workshop. Huge thank you to the U.S. Marines for partnering with us for these special Seminars that took place in New Orleans, Oakland and Detroit! The U.S. Marines are all great examples of achieving balance of life, that is body, mind and spirit of course!
