The Hispanic Heritage Foundation (HHF) to host two Latinos on Fast Track (LOFT) Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) Leadership Symposia sponsored by the U.S. Army tomorrow, March 20th and Wednesday, March 21st at Fordham University. 

The LOFT STEM Leadership Symposium is a free leadership and workforce development program sponsored by the Army that provides career-path guidance, educational opportunities and connectivity for students/ young professionals in the STEM fields. 

Speakers for day one include Joey Mejias, Founder, Director of Mobile Engineering & Director of Product at Apperate, Lina Pulgarin-Duque, Senior Data Analyst at MediaMath, Yoliem Miranda Alarcon, Biomedical Engineering PhD student and NSF Research Fellow at Rutgers University. Day two speakers include Joey Mejias, Founder, Director of Mobile Engineering & Director of Product at Apperate, Yvonne Thevenot, Executive Director at STEM Kids NYC, Marilu Duque, Code as a Second Language (CSL) Fellow & Designer at NYU’s Center for Multicultural Education and Programs. 

Students at the Symposium will learn about leadership and how they too can be leaders in their everyday high school careers. The leadership presentation was led by Captain Gregory Szabados, Assistant Professor of Military Science for the University of Southern California AROTC program. The students will have the opportunity to network with students from other local high schools, speakers and the U.S. Army. 

The Symposia will include a Hacking a Career in STEM segment where students will compile their personal goals on how they can continue on their path to successful careers through the end of their high school careers and after graduation. Speakers will provide students with insight on their own personal backgrounds, their high school careers, highlights throughout their career and tips/advice on what students can do moving forward. Schedule — 

10:00 am -10:30 am- Registration and Networking Reception with students and participating sponsors 

10:30 am-10:33 am – Welcome Remarks 

10:34 am-10:36 am – Army Representative Remarks 

10:37 am-10:39 am – Introduction of Army Leadership Presentation and Presenter 

10:40 am-11:25 am –  Army Leadership Presentation 

11:25 am- 12:00 pm – Lunch/Networking Opportunity 

12:00 pm- 12:55 pm – Hacking a Career in STEM Segment 

12:55 pm- 1:00 pm-    Closing Remarks 

HHF and the U.S. Army are excited to unite students, teachers, speakers, volunteers and more at Fordham University for a day of leadership and connection!
