LOFT STEM Symposium in New York!

Hispanic Heritage Foundation

The Hispanic Heritage Foundation (HHF) hosted its final LOFT STEM Symposium at Lehman College in New York!

The LOFT Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Leadership Symposium is a free leadership and workforce development program sponsored by the U.S. Army that provides career-path guidance, educational opportunities, and connectivity for juniors and seniors in high school, and other young professionals in the STEM fields.

Panelists at our LOFT STEM Symposium in New York included Major Jill Rahon, instructor in the Department of Physics and Nuclear Engineering at the United States Military Academy West Point, Rebecca Garcia, Co-Founder of CoderDojo NYC, Oscar Gonzalez, founder of Sawyer Effect, Marilu Duque, student at NYU, Andrea Chavez, professor at The Women’s Leadership School of Astoria, Brenda Camarillo, LOFT Coordinator at HHF, Maydi Guevara, student at The Young Women’s Leadership School of Astoria, and Michael Nguyen, Recruiting Operations Officer at Fordham University ROTC.

Panelists provided students with their guidance and support in using technology to their full advantage, along with the importance of getting involved in their communities, and interning in high school. Even as a high school student, it is never too early to start thinking about a career after college.

Over 200 students filled the hall at Lehman College both days ready to learn about careers in STEM, and how networking with other students and professionals is key!

By joining our LOFT Network online community, students can connect with other students across the country, and have access to resources including educational grants, year-long LOFT Innovation Workforce Development programs, and other work-based learning opportunities.

As a student, you can also take part of our other programs like our Youth Awards, Code as a Second Language (CSL), and our ESA LOFT Video Game Innovation Fellowship! With over 100 events taking place across the country each year, HHF is dedicated to helping future Latino Leaders across all fields.
